A national moment of silence was observed for 26-year-old Karen Shakhsuvaryan, known by the call sign Kara, who was killed on October 9, 2023, during a combat mission near the village of Novoprokopivka in Zaporizhzhia Oblast. Shakhsuvaryan was born on September 17, 1997, in the village of Medvyn in Kyiv Oblast.

He previously worked in his home village, first at a sawmill and later at the municipal enterprise "Medvyn-Invest." From the first days of the full-scale invasion, Shakhsuvaryan joined the local territorial defense and was conscripted into the army in March 2023. He served as a sniper-shooter in the air assault battalion of the 46th Separate Air Assault Brigade. He was posthumously awarded the Order "For Courage" III Class. He is survived by his mother and younger sister.
