Albanian PM Accuses Russia and Iran of Inciting Protests
Albania's Prime Minister Edi Rama stated that authorities have evidence of foreign interference in anti-government protests, which he claims were instigated by Russia and Iran. Rama indicated that the unrest could hinder the country's accession to the EU. According to Bloomberg, 272 people were injured in the recent protests.
The protests in Albania began in the summer due to plans to develop the island of Sazan and coastal areas, involving Affinity Partners, a company founded by Jared Kushner. Opponents fear damage to protected natural areas. In October, the demonstrations escalated into larger anti-government rallies demanding Rama's resignation over alleged corruption, unemployment, and education issues. In the past five days of protests, 169 police officers, 82 protesters, and 21 bystanders were injured.
