Albanian PM Alleges Russian and Iranian Involvement in Protests
Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama stated that authorities believe Russia and Iran are involved in inciting ongoing protests in Albania. Rama alleged that tens of thousands of fake profiles were created to pose as Albanians and that these, along with others, were utilized by Iran. He suggested the protests are not coincidental.
The protests, initially focused on environmental protection and later expanding to include anti-corruption and economic grievances, have escalated with student participation. Prime Minister Rama has denied intentions to resign and suggested foreign interference from Russia and Iran, citing the use of fake social media profiles. No concrete evidence of Russian involvement has been presented by Albanian authorities.
