AP: US surgeons attempt to restore sight to Ukrainian soldier injured by mine

Friday, October 23, 2026 at 11:34 AM

AP reports that US surgeons are attempting to restore the sight of Mykola Kasyuk, a Ukrainian soldier who was severely wounded two years ago by a mine explosion. Kasyuk can currently only distinguish faint light but dreams of seeing his children again.

The explosion of a mine nearly deprived Mykola Kasyuk of his sight two years ago. Currently, the man can only distinguish faint light, but he continues to dream of seeing his children again. For many soldiers, this is a chance to see again, or not be ashamed of their appearance and to look people in the eye freely.
