Belarusian citizen banned from Russia for 100 years over protest participation
The Supreme Court of Karelia ruled to deport Belarusian national Maxim Stasevich from Russia and ban him from entering the country for 100 years, according to "Наша Ніва". Stasevich participated in protests in Minsk following the 2020 Belarusian presidential election and later moved to Karelia, Russia, where he worked at a children's camp.
Stasevich was detained in St. Petersburg in late 2025 at Minsk's request, facing criminal charges in Belarus for protest activities. Russia declined extradition. In April 2026, he was detained for lacking an FSB permit for a border village, initially fined. Subsequently, a local anti-extremism center sought his deportation, with the Interior Ministry citing evasion of prosecution and threats to public order.
