Belarusian volunteer faces deportation from Ukraine after losing passport
A Belarusian volunteer, Emil "Bobr" Lobeyko, risks deportation in November after losing his passport during combat operations in Donetsk Oblast. Lobeyko joined Ukraine's defense forces in 2022, initially serving in the Kalinovsky Regiment before joining the Kraken regiment's unmanned systems unit.
In Belarus, Lobeyko faces six criminal cases for serving abroad and participating in protests against the Lukashenko regime, with potential sentences of up to 20 years. A "DNR court" also sentenced him to 14 years for "mercenarism." Ukrainian law requires foreign volunteers to obtain a temporary residency permit within six months, which necessitates presenting an original passport or a document confirming special status. Anastasia "Sever" Makhomet, a Belarusian veteran working with volunteers in Ukraine, stated that many lack such documents, hindering their legal procedures. At least eight individuals face similar situations, with potential discharge from service if no changes occur, leading to mandatory departure from Ukraine within three days.
