Czech volunteer Karel Kucher killed in Ukraine's Bakhmut direction

Tuesday, October 20, 2026 at 06:00 AM

Czech volunteer Karel Kucher, known by the call sign "Charlie Czech," was killed in March 2023 near the village of Khromivka in the Bakhmut direction. He eliminated two Russian soldiers with small arms fire but sustained three gunshot wounds and died from internal bleeding while providing aid.

Kucher was born in the Czech Republic on June 24, 2000. After Russia's full-scale invasion, he assisted Ukrainian refugees and raised funds for the Defense Forces. Despite being denied permission by then-President Miloš Zeman, he traveled to Ukraine in May 2022 and served in the 3rd Special Purpose Battalion of the International Legion of the Territorial Defense Forces, fighting in the Kharkiv and Donetsk regions.
