FAZ: Russia expands military infrastructure in Baltic region, builds large radar station n

Sunday, October 18, 2026 at 09:08 PM

A large radar station with three antenna arrays, each over 500 meters long, is reportedly under construction near Gvardeysk in Russia's Kaliningrad Oblast, according to German newspaper FAZ, citing satellite imagery from Finnish company Iceye. The radar is estimated to have a detection range of up to 3,000 kilometers, potentially covering Germany, France, and the UK.

The satellite imagery indicates a broader trend of military buildup in Kaliningrad Oblast, with significant strengthening of air defense, air force, and the Baltic Fleet. Over twenty military facilities are reportedly in place, with new constructions, including a large circular antenna complex near Chernyakhovsk, being added.
