FSB reportedly arrests German mercenary who deserted Ukrainian army

The FSB reportedly arrested a German national in Ukraine in 2025, who had previously fought in Afghanistan, Somalia, and Syria between 2004 and 2010. The individual also served in a Ukrainian territorial defense unit from 2016 to 2018.
According to the FSB, the German national returned to Ukraine in 2025, signed a three-year contract with the AFU, but reportedly deserted after failing to receive his promised pay.
