German authorities have arrested a 53-year-old Ukrainian man on suspicion of spying for Russia, according to Bild and Tagesschau. Prosecutors allege Vadym Ya., a native of the Luhansk region, gathered information on weapons production and military facilities related to the defense of NATO's eastern flank.
Der Spiegel reported that he was also interested in the Bundeswehr's 45th tank brigade, which is to be stationed in Lithuania. A court will decide on his pre-trial detention on October 23. The allegations are currently only suspicions, and no verdict has been reached. Vadym Ya.'s stance on the accusations is not yet known.
