Iran is experiencing worsening medicine shortages due to U.S. sanctions, soaring inflation, and war damage, forcing patients to alter treatment, according to CNN. Nearly 800 medications are reportedly affected, and pharmacies are owed approximately $300 million by insurance companies.

The crisis is compounded by U.S. sanctions, which experts say complicate payments and discourage foreign banks and suppliers from dealing with Iranian buyers, even though medicine is generally exempt. Iranian officials reported that U.S. and Israeli airstrikes earlier this year damaged more than 40 pharmaceutical companies, suppliers, and distributors.
