Kazakhstan court orders expulsion of former Russian soldier
A district court in Kazakhstan's West Kazakhstan region has ordered the expulsion of a former Russian serviceman who was detained in the country, according to the publication "Moy Gorod". The man, who served in the Russian army, left his service in July 2025 and went on the run.
He illegally crossed the Kazakh border in March of this year, planning to reach Uralsk and then Taraz to hide in another country, but was apprehended by National Security Committee (KNB) officers. At the court hearing, he fully admitted his guilt but claimed his escape was forced and asked not to be sentenced to prison, not to be expelled, and to be granted amnesty. The man was fined 865,000 tenge with mandatory expulsion from Kazakhstan and a five-year entry ban. Due to amnesty, the court released the defendant from the fine, but the expulsion and ban remain in effect.
