Anatoliy Tarasov was killed on July 3, 2022, by shrapnel wounds in the village of Mali Prokhody, Kharkiv district, Kharkiv region. He was riding a bicycle when a shell fell behind him. His wife, Valentina, recalled that he was buried three hours later on the same day in the cemetery, with his body wrapped in a blanket as there was no coffin. Tarasov was 67 years old.

Tarasov was born and lived in Mali Prokhody and worked as a plumber at V. Karazin Kharkiv National University. After the full-scale invasion began, the man did not want to leave his native village, saying, "My parents are buried here." Ukrainian defenders liberated Mali Prokhody in September 2022. Anatoliy Tarasov is survived by his wife, daughter, and two granddaughters.
