Report: Suspected Russian Sabotage Attempts in Lithuania, Latvia, and Germany

Sunday, October 18, 2026 at 12:18 PM

A Telegram channel reported that unknown individuals attempted to set fire to a facility in Lithuania storing Starlink equipment, but the attempt was thwarted due to enhanced security. The source stated that incendiary liquids were found at the scene. Lithuanian Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius attributed the incident to Russia's hybrid warfare, suggesting Russian involvement. Additionally, an air alert was declared in Lithuania due to an unidentified drone, causing the temporary closure of Kaunas Airport and prompting the scramble of two Italian Eurofighter jets.

In Lithuania, the attempted sabotage of Starlink equipment was reportedly prevented by security services who had been warned of a potential attack. Prime Minister Sinkevičius stated that incendiary liquids and containers were discovered. He also mentioned that the drone incident in Lithuania led to the grounding of flights at Kaunas Airport and that debris may have damaged a civilian car. President Nausėda characterized the drone incident as an expansion of Russia's war into NATO and EU territory. In Latvia, residents were warned of potential aerial threats. At Leipzig Airport in Germany, an unknown vehicle reportedly rammed the fence around grounded Russian cargo planes.
