Reuters reported that US forces are set to withdraw from Iraq by tomorrow, concluding a presence of over 20 years during which 4,500 American soldiers died. Iran-backed groups have hailed the withdrawal as a historic victory and a significant defeat for the US. However, Iraqi security officials have expressed concerns that the withdrawal is premature.

The last US service member killed in Iraq was in July, near Erbil, due to a drone detonation. Seven out of 18 US service members killed in the ongoing Iran war this year died in Iraq.
