Russia claims US and China initiated space warfare
A Russian Telegram channel claimed that Russia's "Kosmos-2612" satellite is now flying alongside and behind ICEYE-X36, a satellite providing intelligence to Ukraine. Western sources reportedly expressed concern that Russia might be initiating anti-satellite warfare by potentially colliding with or destroying the ICEYE-X36 satellite.
The author referenced past US and Chinese space activities, including the US ASM-135 missile test that destroyed the Solwind satellite in 1985, and China's SC-19 test that destroyed the FengYun-1C weather satellite. The post also mentioned China's subsequent tests and actions against US satellites, and Russia's own anti-satellite capabilities, such as the "Peresvet" and "Kalin" systems, and the "Nudol" system used to destroy a defunct Kosmos satellite in 2021. The author stated that the current Russian satellite is merely loitering near the foreign satellite without engaging.
