Russia Orders German Consulate in St. Petersburg to Cease Operations

Thursday, September 17, 2026 at 01:16 PM

Russia's Foreign Ministry has ordered the German consulate in St. Petersburg to cease operations by September 18, according to a SOTAvision correspondent. This action is reportedly a response to Germany's closure of the Russian consulate in Bonn and the Russian House in Berlin.

The move follows Germany's accusations against Russia regarding a drone with explosives found near a Ukrainian cargo plane at Leipzig airport. Berlin has also announced a reduction in tourist visas for Russians and demanded the closure of Russia's last consulate in Germany. Additionally, Russia has decided to close Goethe-Institut cultural centers.
