A Russian court has sentenced 77-year-old Ukrainian national Volodymyr Ananyev to 18 years in prison for allegedly preparing a terrorist act and illegal trafficking of explosives. Ananyev, who denied the charges, was accused by the FSB of plotting to bomb a vehicle in the motorcade of Russian leadership in occupied Crimea.

Human rights advocates have reported a deterioration of Ananyev's health while in pre-trial detention. The verdict has not yet taken legal effect and can be appealed.
