Russia sentences four from occupied Melitopol to life and 25 years for city explosions

Friday, October 16, 2026 at 05:06 PM

A Russian court sentenced four residents of occupied Melitopol to life imprisonment and 25 years in prison for their alleged involvement in explosions in the city. Igor Garanin received a life sentence, while three others were sentenced to 25 years each. According to Mediazona, all four claimed they were tortured during the investigation.

Russian FSB claims the defendants organized attacks on occupation authorities on behalf of Ukrainian special services. One explosion in April 2023 killed Oleksandr Mishchenko, the deputy head of the occupation Interior Ministry in Melitopol.
