Russia sentences Tatyana Montyan to 1.5 years in prison for extremism

Monday, October 19, 2026 at 08:26 AM

Russian authorities have sentenced Tatyana Montyan to 1.5 years in a penal colony. The sentence was reported on the website of the "Voroshilovsky inter-district court" in occupied Donetsk.

The 54-year-old Montyan was found guilty under Article 280 of the Russian Criminal Code (public calls for extremism) for a statement made in December 2022. She described those who silenced problems at the front to provide positive reports to the Russian authorities as "security guards to be killed without pity." Montyan moved from Ukraine to Russia in 2021, worked as a columnist for RT, and appeared on Russian television channels. In October 2025, she was added to the "extremist" list by Rosfinmonitoring.
