Russian activist reportedly beaten in custody, lawyer claims
A lawyer for Dmitry Morozov, an activist from Udmurtia, stated that his client has bruises on his eyes, neck, and hands, and experiences pain when coughing. The lawyer, Denis Varlamov, has filed complaints with the prosecutor's office and the human rights ombudsman in Udmurtia.
Morozov was recently detained and ordered by the Pervomaysky District Court of Izhevsk to be held in pre-trial detention for two months. He is accused of drug possession. "Kommersant-Udmurtia" reported that investigators claim Morozov stored 1.38 grams of mephedrone at his home. The prosecution also suggested Morozov may be involved with a Ukrainian armed formation, though no details were provided. His father, Valery Tsarenko, stated Morozov's face was "battered" and his hands swollen after his overnight detention.
