Russian court sentences former TV producer to 6.5 years for 'terrorist' comments
Thursday, October 15, 2026 at 08:32 PM
A Russian court sentenced former television producer Kapitolina Averina to six and a half years in prison for public calls for terrorism, based on her Telegram messages. One message reportedly suggested bombing Moscow.
Sources familiar with the case told "Sever.Realii" that Averina's comments were made in a state of shock after her partner, Yuri Stratiy, who fought for Ukraine, was killed near Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region in May 2023. Averina was detained in February 2026 in Ivangorod, Leningrad Oblast, and the FSB's Kaluga regional office investigated the case. She was previously added to Russia's list of "terrorists and extremists" by Rosfinmonitoring.
