Russian court sentences graduate student to 5 years for comments on Kakhovka dam destructi
A graduate student from Moscow's "Slavic-Greek-Latin Academy," Alexey Ptushkin, has been sentenced to five years in prison by the Chertanovsky District Court of Moscow for allegedly spreading "fakes about the army." The charges stem from two comments Ptushkin made in 2023 on a social media post discussing the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant dam.
According to "Mediazona," Ptushkin admitted guilt but stated his comments were driven by emotion rather than political hatred. He reportedly said, "The dam was blown up by Russian troops, an explosion is not beneficial to Ukraine" and "The whole world can see what Russia has been doing for 15 months. There is no point in discrediting what has long been discredited. The explosion of the dam by Russian troops speaks of complete despair in the Kremlin. They understand that they will not hold Kherson region." Ptushkin had previously faced administrative charges for participating in anti-war rallies, resulting in fines and arrest.
