Russian defense firms reportedly moving production to China amid sanctions
Russian defense industry enterprises have begun relocating production to China, according to a report by the research center C4ADS, cited by "Vazhnye Istorii" (listed as a foreign agent in Russia). Russian companies are increasingly placing production in China, transferring engineering technologies and manufacturing knowledge to Chinese partners.
The report notes that Russia's largest microelectronics producer, GC Element, began assembling chipsets in China in 2024. Machine tool manufacturer StankoMashStroy, which supplied equipment to Russian military-industrial complex enterprises, planned to open a five-axis machine tool production facility there, though researchers found no confirmation of its launch. Beijing gains access to Russian developments while retaining the ability to limit supplies to Russia if cooperation threatens its economic interests.
