Russian forces from the "Vostok" group captured eight Ukrainian soldiers in Omelnyk on October 17. The soldiers, who surrendered from a basement, are being processed for prisoner exchanges and potential involvement in war crimes.

One captured soldier, junior sergeant Pidkevych Vladyslav Volodymyrovych, claimed his unit was forcibly mobilized and that soldiers are deserting. He also alleged high casualties, disorganization within Ukrainian forces, and command failures leading to soldiers being sent into combat without support.
