Russian forces reportedly strike Kyiv substation, bridge; transport disrupted

Tuesday, October 20, 2026 at 03:29 PM

A Russian drone strike on the 330 kV "Nivki" substation in Kyiv reportedly caused a transport collapse, halting the metro and funicular, and partially stopping trams. Local residents complained of an unbearable smell and thick smoke from a fire at the substation, described as a major hub in the capital's power grid. Additionally, Russian drones reportedly attacked the Northern Bridge, leading to its closure.

Kyiv Mayor Klitschko confirmed the strikes. His apartment is located in a building on Bohdana Khmelnytskoho Street that, along with ten other residential buildings, is connected to a critical infrastructure facility and is not being disconnected from electricity during blackouts.
