Thursday, September 17, 2026 at 06:00 AM
A Russian army strike with a FAB bomb in Kharkiv on June 29, 2026, killed 23-year-old Nnadi Adaobi Merian and wounded her classmate Fatima Huseynova. Huseynova died at the scene, while Merian was hospitalized with severe burns and injuries before later dying in Germany on July 5.
Merian, who was born in Kharkiv to Nigerian parents, was studying at the Kharkiv National Medical University. She and her father had moved to Germany at the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, and she continued her studies remotely. She had planned to validate her diploma in Austria and was preparing for fall exams, potentially becoming a nephrologist or cardiologist.
