Russia's Appellate Military Court has ordered former Major General Marat Ospanov, commander of the 6th Motor Rifle Division of the Ministry of Defense, to remain in pre-trial detention. He is accused in the case of the murder of seven servicemen, according to Kommersant.

The incident in question occurred in July 2023. According to the investigation, Ospanov, with the call sign "Gyurza," ordered his subordinates to punish servicemen for violations. They were reportedly grenaded in a basement, then finished off with a pistol, and their bodies were destroyed. Two participants in the reprisal have already been convicted under a special procedure, and the trial for the rest is ongoing. Of the eight defendants, three remain on trial, with the others having gone to the SMO.
