Russian Interior Ministry places journalist Alexey Kovalyov on wanted list
Russia's Interior Ministry has placed journalist Alexey Kovalyov, former head of investigations at Meduza, on its wanted list. Mediazona noted Kovalyov's appearance in the Interior Ministry's database. The ministry did not specify the reasons for initiating the search case.
Before joining Meduza, Kovalyov collaborated with Russian and international publications including InoSMI.ru (where he was editor-in-chief), Wired, GQ, and The Guardian. He received the Redkollegia journalism prize three times for his work on corruption in the administration of Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov, the "Putin Palace" near Gelendzhik, and war crimes by Russian soldiers in Ukraine. In 2025, Kovalyov published an investigation into how homes in Mariupol, whose owners died or fled after the war began and the city's devastating bombings, are transferred to state ownership or resold to private buyers.
