Russian MP asks Prosecutor General to check activist's detention
State Duma deputy Nina Ostannina has asked Prosecutor General Alexander Gutsan to investigate the circumstances surrounding the detention of activist Dmitry Morozov in Izhevsk. Morozov faces drug charges after allegedly attempting to organize a protest against election fraud.
Ostannina, representing the CPRF party, expressed concern over reports of bodily harm sustained by Morozov after his detention by FSB officers on October 3. His father claimed his son had facial scratches and swollen hands. Morozov's lawyer complained about being denied access to his client for over 24 hours. Morozov had previously sought to hold a rally against election falsifications, and a court ordered authorities to reconsider the permit application after an initial denial citing the poor condition of a monument.
