Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) reported the arrest of a resident of occupied Melitopol in Kyiv, who is suspected of planning an assassination attempt on a Russian opposition figure fighting for Ukraine. The woman was allegedly recruited by Russia's FSB and tasked with killing the opposition figure, who leads a Ukrainian public organization and works as a kickboxing coach.

The target had been fighting for Ukraine since 2022, initially in the Kyiv region and later on the Eastern front. The SBU claims the suspect was to shoot the man from an ambush near a Kyiv sports facility. She was apprehended near the sports complex while surveying the area for a future attack. The detainee is an unemployed resident of temporarily occupied Melitopol. Russian special services allegedly recruited her in exchange for a promise to 'close' a case regarding illegal drug possession.
