Russian security forces reportedly tortured political scientist Alexander Kynev with electricity, demanding a confession of state treason, according to Ekaterina Shulman on the "Bild Russian" broadcast. Kynev's lawyer, Mikhail Biryukov, previously stated that the political scientist was taken to the prison hospital of SIZO-1 "Matrosskaya Tishina" with bodily injuries after his detention.

Materials concerning unidentified individuals who allegedly caused Kynev's injuries during his detention have been separated into a separate investigation. Kynev is accused of attempted large-scale drug trafficking, a charge he denies. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison. He was detained on September 25 with the participation of FSB officers, and the Perovsky District Court of Moscow ordered his detention in a pre-trial detention center for two months.
