A Ukrainian citizen, Lyubov Rozhanskaya, was detained in Astana at the request of Russia, made through the Collective Security Treaty Organization, her lawyer Alexey Pryanishnikov told DW. Rozhanskaya was detained at Astana airport upon arrival from Istanbul.

A court hearing is expected within three days. Despite being a Ukrainian citizen, there is a possibility of her deportation to Russia, where a criminal case for child abduction was opened against her in 2023. According to Pryanishnikov, Rozhanskaya intended to pick up her grandson in Astana, who was to be brought from Russia by his stepfather. Pryanishnikov believes Rozhanskaya's detention was a 'well-planned operation' and an FSB provocation.
