Ukraine Conducts First Combat Launch of Indigenous FP-7 Ballistic Missile
Ukraine conducted its first combat launch of the indigenous FP-7 ballistic missile on October 1, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky. He shared a video of the launch on his Telegram channel, stating that serial production is now the focus.
The FP-7, also known as "Pelican," was developed by the private Ukrainian defense company Fire Point. It is a tactical surface-to-surface missile launched from a ground platform, which can be mobile. The Pelican has a maximum range of 200 kilometers, a maximum warhead weight of 150 kilograms, and a maximum speed of 1500 meters per second. Fire Point's chief designer, Denys Shtilerman, told Reuters that the FP-7 is similar to the American ATACMS missile system, which Ukraine has successfully used in the war.
