Ukraine: Corruption scheme to evade mobilization uncovered in Zaporizhzhia

Wednesday, October 14, 2026 at 09:00 AM

Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and National Police uncovered a group in Zaporizhzhia that helped military-obligated men obtain fake disability status to avoid mobilization and leave the country. The organizer, reportedly outside Ukraine, recruited clients while medical professionals falsified health records. The cost of these services ranged from $8,000 to $12,000.

One scheme participant was detained while receiving $9,500. Law enforcement seized medical documents and computer equipment during searches. Three medical workers were notified of suspicion for illegal border crossing, and the organizer faces charges for abuse of influence and is potentially subject to international wanted notice.
