A border guard has been extradited from Germany to Ukraine on suspicion of intentionally killing a serviceman in the Odesa region in July 2024. According to investigators, border guards stopped a taxi carrying four soldiers who had left their training unit and planned to illegally cross the border into Moldova. Two passengers attempted to flee, and one was detained. Investigators determined that the border guard shot the detainee, even though he posed no threat to life or health. The man died at the scene from his wounds.

The suspect fled to Germany a few days later. On October 19, 2026, he was handed over to Ukraine. A court has taken the border guard into custody without the option of bail. He faces up to 15 years in prison.
