Ukraine: Former Crimean official Sergey Kolobov accused of treason
Tuesday, October 13, 2026 at 04:20 PM
A Ukrainian court is hearing the case of Sergey Kolobov, a former head of Crimea's energy committee, who is accused of treason. The prosecution alleges Kolobov aided Russia's occupation regime by facilitating the re-registration of Crimean energy assets under Russian law. The defense argues that the actions occurred outside of martial law and that Kolobov did not assist in explosive activities against Ukraine.
Kolobov allegedly headed Crimea's ministry of fuel and energy after the peninsula's annexation, overseeing assets including power plants and oil depots. He was reportedly detained in Kyiv in 2026 with Russian passports while working for a company selling pump equipment.
