Ukraine Ombudsman: Russia Fails to Confirm Evacuation Mission from Oleshky Amid Civilian T

Wednesday, September 16, 2026 at 04:40 PM

Ukrainian Ombudsman Lubinets stated that agreements were made with the Russian side for an evacuation from Oleshky, with clear algorithms established. However, the Russian side has not confirmed its readiness to conduct the humanitarian mission for an extended period following negotiations. Civilians in Oleshky are reportedly under daily threat of shelling and drone attacks, lacking essential supplies.

According to Lubinets, over 6,000 people, including approximately 200 children, may remain in Oleshky. The ombudsman also noted that people are resorting to crossing mined fields independently as their only perceived way to escape the situation.
