A Ukrainian man seeking asylum in Moldova claims he was beaten by Ukrainian border guards while attempting to cross the Dniester River. The 49-year-old Kyiv resident stated that his deferment from military service was not extended, prompting him to leave the country by swimming across the river.

He recounted that after swimming for about 15 minutes in cold water, he was disoriented. He alleges that border guards then attempted to hit him with a boat propeller. Upon reaching the shore, bystanders intervened when Ukrainian border guards tried to detain him, potentially saving his life.
