Ukrainian forces report Russian troops shelled civilians near Kupyansk
A Telegram channel reported that Russian forces used civilians as a human shield in Kupyansk before shelling a group with mortar and artillery fire, causing casualties among women and a child. The incident occurred on the morning of October 13, as Russian military personnel led a group of civilians, including two women, a child, and several men, towards the "Shebelinka - Ostrogozk" gas pipeline. The group reportedly came under mortar and artillery fire multiple times.
Video footage from reconnaissance drones of units within the "Khartia" corps reportedly shows casualties among the civilians. Ukrainian military forces stated they did not open fire. Based on the nature of the shell bursts, they determined the shelling originated from the eastern bank of the Oskil River, from the occupying forces' side. The report emphasizes this shelling was a deliberate provocation, warning that Russian media might use footage to accuse Ukraine of striking civilians. Materials will be provided for war crimes investigation.
