Ukrainian military surgeon says drones changed nature of battlefield injuries

Friday, October 2, 2026 at 08:34 PM

A Ukrainian military surgeon, Bohdan "Lancet" Zhuravel, stated that drones have altered the nature of battlefield injuries and medical work. According to the surgeon from the 14th "Red Kalyna" Brigade, approximately 99% of the injuries he encounters are shrapnel wounds.

Zhuravel noted that due to the constant threat from the air, medical posts have to be located further from the front line. However, these posts remain potential targets as they house both the wounded and medical personnel.
