Ukrainian naval reserve captain says Russia has increased Kerch Bridge defenses ahead of p

Sunday, October 4, 2026 at 10:13 AM

Russia has reportedly increased defenses around the Kerch Bridge and is preparing for potential new attacks around October 7-8, according to Ukrainian Navy Captain First Rank (reserve) Andriy Ryzhenko. Ryzhenko stated that despite enhanced air and anti-sabotage measures since the 2022 strike, Russia has struggled to fully secure the facility against attacks.

Ryzhenko described the Kerch Bridge as one of Russia's most protected sites, second only to the Kremlin's perimeter, noting the presence of air defense and other security systems. He suggested that Russia's heightened concern around October 7-8 is likely due to the difficulty they have faced in managing previous attacks on the bridge.
