Ukrainian Ombudsman Investigates Train Departure After Evacuation

Thursday, October 15, 2026 at 07:27 PM

A train traveling from Lviv to Chernivtsi departed without 25 passengers who had been evacuated from their carriages due to a threat of Russian shelling. The train left 10 seconds after the air raid siren was lifted, leaving the passengers stranded in a field. Ukraine's Ombudsman, Dmytro Lubinets, stated that his office has sent a letter to Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) to clarify the circumstances.

Video of the indignant passengers has reportedly circulated online. Lubinets questioned Ukrzaliznytsia's procedures, asking how such an incident could occur.
