Ukrainian Pravda journalists detained in Vienna, one wounded

Friday, October 9, 2026 at 08:42 AM

The chief editor of "Ukrainska Pravda" (UP), Sevghil Musaieva, reported that the head of the publication's investigative journalism department, Mykhailo Tkach, was released after being detained in Vienna. However, the editorial team has not yet been able to contact him. UP's operator, Yaroslav Bondarenko, sustained injuries during the detention.

The editorial team is currently unaware of the procedural status of both journalists. Musaieva stated that the accusations against their colleagues during their detention were unprecedented and raised serious questions, urging Austrian law enforcement for explanations regarding the circumstances of the detention, Bondarenko's injury, and the reasons for their prolonged holding. The editorial team also awaits clarification of their procedural status and the return of their communication devices.
