A Ukrainian volunteer from Kryvyi Rih, Kostyantyn Vlasenko, reportedly survived for 491 days on the frontline, holding his position alone in a concrete drainage pipe after his comrade was killed. He reportedly amputated both his legs with a regular knife due to severe injuries and gangrene.

Russian forces reportedly demanded he surrender via loudspeakers, but he refused. Ukrainian drones reportedly supplied him with food and water for months. He has now been safely evacuated and is recovering under medical supervision.
