An ombudsman stated that a Ukrainian woman detained in Kazakhstan may have been lured by the "new relatives" of her grandson in collusion with the FSB. The ombudsman said the child's relatives in Russia contacted the woman, intentionally trying to lure her from Ukraine to pick up the child herself. The woman believed them and traveled to Astana, unaware that Russia was preparing for her detention.
The ombudsman emphasized that Russia is currently seeking her extradition and stressed that this should not be allowed.
