US resident admits guilt in smuggling plutonium from Russia
A resident of Massachusetts, USA, has pleaded guilty to illegally importing plutonium-239 from Russia and selling it through his online store, The New York Times reported. The 44-year-old, Jacob Miller, imported the radioactive material from a seller in St. Petersburg.
According to the prosecution, from 2020 to 2025, Miller sent dangerous and toxic substances to at least 67 buyers in the US, Canada, Japan, and Switzerland. In addition to plutonium, he sold highly toxic thallium. One buyer was later accused of fatally poisoning his roommate. Miller also pleaded guilty to transmitting dangerous substances, possessing child pornography, ammunition, and explosives. His sentencing is scheduled for January 21, 2027, and he faces up to 20 years in prison on key charges.
