Yuriy Koval, a veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war and former tank platoon commander, described the emotional toll of Russian strikes on his hometown of Pokrovsk, as well as Kurakhove and Kostiantynivka. Koval, who served over two and a half years on the Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk fronts, expressed anger and sorrow over the destruction.

Koval, who previously taught political science and headed the information technology sector for the Pokrovsk City Council, spoke to Suspilne Donbas about his experiences during heavy shelling, military camaraderie, and adapting to civilian life after the loss of his home.
